Singapore’s Circle Line Loop Is Finally Closing After 15 Years

🚆 Circle Line Stage 6 Officially Opening on 12 July 2026

Singapore’s Circle Line (CCL) is finally completing its full loop — a major milestone for the country’s MRT network.

Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow announced that the final three Circle Line stations will officially begin operations on 12 July 2026.

The 3 new stations are:

📍 Cantonment MRT Station

📍 Keppel MRT Station

📍 Prince Edward Road MRT Station

These stations form Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6) — the final 4km stretch that closes the loop between:

🚉 HarbourFront MRT Station and 🚉 Marina Bay MRT Station

📌 Why This Is Significant

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The completion of the Circle Line loop is one of Singapore’s biggest MRT milestones in recent years.

Once operational:

• Commuters can travel in a full circle around Singapore without changing lines

• Travel times between the west, city, and southern waterfront areas will improve

• Passenger congestion on other interchange stations may ease

• Connectivity to the Greater Southern Waterfront gets a major boost

Areas expected to benefit include:

• HarbourFront

• Keppel

• Cantonment

• Marina Bay

• Tanjong Pagar

• Greater Southern Waterfront precinct

📌 Impact on Real Estate & Connectivity

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The new stations could significantly enhance accessibility and long-term value for nearby properties.

Potential benefits:

🏡 Improved transport convenience for residents

🏢 Stronger commercial and office connectivity

📈 Increased attractiveness for future developments near the southern waterfront corridor

🚶 Better last-mile access to CBD and city fringe areas

This is especially important as the Greater Southern Waterfront transformation continues to evolve over the next decade.

📌 Why Was It Delayed?

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Originally announced in 2015, Circle Line Stage 6 was initially targeted for completion in 2025.

However, the project faced delays due to:

• Covid-19 pandemic disruptions

• Construction manpower shortages

• Tunnel strengthening and integration works required before final systems testing

The line was later revised to:

• First half of 2026

• Then subsequently adjusted to mid-2026

With final testing now ongoing, the project is officially entering its completion phase.

Singapore’s MRT network continues moving toward greater connectivity, reduced travel times, and stronger integration between residential, commercial, and future waterfront districts.
